Andy Giambroni is a retired livestock veterinarian, born in Alameda in 1923. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 19, and landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy when he was 20 years old. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and survived. Friday night in Red Bluff, he was honored by a representative of France with the Knight of the Legion of Honor medal for his service. A representative of the French Consulate in San Francisco gave a speech, telling the crowd at the Elks Lodge that France will never forget the sacrifices the U.S. military men and women made for their freedom. Hundreds of friends and family attended the event, and told stories of Mr. Giambroni's time as a veterinarian. Giambroni also has a purple heart, and a gold and silver star. His 92 year old sister, as well as his wife and sons were also in attendance.
