Just in time for fire season, the Tehama County Fire Department has purchased a brand new water tender that can pump 750 gallons of water per minute.

The new water tender is the first of its kind in Tehama County, and has been sent to County Fire Station 21 in Paynes Creek.

The water tender carries 2000 gallons of water, ladders, ventilation fans, lighting, medical gear, and a portable water tank that allows water to be delivered to a fire scene more efficiently.

The truck will be placed in Paynes Creek giving the communities of Payne's Creek, Ponderosa Sky Ranch, Manton, and Mineral improved fire protection.

Fire officials say before they bought this new water tender, the only one in eastern Tehama County was in Manton.

Additionally, the department is in need of volunteers. Anyone interested should call (530) 528-5199 or check out the department's website for more information.
