The Tehama County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man wanted for attempting to kill his estranged wife and former mother-in-law. According to the Sheriff's Office, 55-year old Mark Brewer went to his soon to be ex-wife's home on West View Way in Cottonwood on Saturday, December 27, at 1:50am. He allegedly kicked in the door and began attacking them with an axe. When deputies arrived on scene, Candi Brewer, 53, was covered in blood. Deputies learned Mr. Brewer had struck both Candi Brewer and her 74-year old mother Barbara Knight with a hammer in the head and upper body. Knight was later admitted to Mercy hospital ICU with skull fractures.

On Saturday, about 6:48pm, Tehama County Dispatch received a call from a resident in the West View Way area stating Mr. Brewer's truck had crashed into a tree about a half mile from the West View Way residence. The truck was disabled at the intersection of Big Pine and Quail Ridge. Mr. Brewer was spotted running into a wooded area. CHP Air Operations assisted by searching the area, but were unable to locate Brewer.

The Tehama County Sheriff's Office is hoping the public can help locate Brewer. He may be driving a 1997 tan Toyota Camry, California license plate number 4-S-W-M-0-7-6. He is described as being 5'8", 185 pounds, black and grey hair with brown eyes. Brewer may be armed with a handgun and should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees Brewer is asked to call the Tehama County Sheriff's Office at 530-529-7900 or 9-1-1. An arrest warrant has been issued for Brewer with bail set at $1.5 million.
