It was the Tehama County District Attorney's turn today to speak about the high profile Quentin Bealer case.
Tehama County District Attorney Gregg Cohen sat beside Red Bluff’s Police Chief Paul Nanfito today and said he is absolutely sure Quentin Bealer is responsible for the death of 14-year-old Marysa Nichols. This "assertion" comes in response to what Chief Nanfito told Action News Now yesterday.
Cohen said that certain media outlets misinterpreted one DNA document done by the Department of Justice and filed by Bealer's Defense Attorney.
“Unfortunately this piece of DNA evidence has been misrepresented by one or more members of the press. Oftentimes, this is what the defense does in an attempt to gain media attention and support for their cause. Just because it's fed to the media by the defense, and reported as true by the media, doesn't make it a full and complete picture of what all the evidence reveals,” Cohen said.
For sake of clarity, Action News Now was not one of these "media" outlets the District Attorney is referring to. We waited to report on the evidence report it until we could get the Police Chief's side of the story.
Just as Nanfito said, Cohen said all of the facts and evidence will come forward on the Preliminary Hearing on January 23, 2014.
