VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP) - San Bernardino County authorities say two teens kidnapped following their high school prom fought off their armed attacker and managed to escape.
Officials say the suspect was arrested Saturday when he went to a hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained in the fight with one of his victims.
Investigators say 22-year-old Jared James is accused of forcing the teens into his car in Victorville and driving them to an isolated area. They say the 17-year-old boy fought with James, wrested the gun away and then hit his attacker with it. The gun went off, but nobody was hit.
Meanwhile the boy's girlfriend ran away to find help. Both teens are OK.
James could face kidnapping and attempted murder charges. Police say James knows the girl, but didn't say what their relationship is.
