PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a 17-year-old girl has died after she was shot in the head in a drive-by shooting in Phoenix.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says the teen was riding in west Phoenix on Friday night when someone in another vehicle fired into the car.

Phoenix police say the girl's friends then drove to a nearby Walmart and called for help.

Walmart, which was filled with shoppers, was briefly evacuated after one of the friends yelled someone had been shot.

The victim was taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital in extremely critical condition but later died.

Authorities have not released the girl's identity or any details about possible suspects.

The teen and her friends were riding in a car near 67th Avenue and Broadway when she was shot.
