Tech Trek for 8th grade girls offered at Butte College and AAUW

The Butte County branches of the American Association of University Women and Butte Community College are co sponsoring a Saturday event for 8th grade girls to promote careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

It's a Tech Trek that takes place on February 7th at the Butte College Main Campus.

Registration is from 8:30 - 9 a.m.. Presentations begin at 9:40 featuring women professionals who will share their experiences. Presenters include Butte Community College President Kimberly Perry, and women who work in the fields of Geology, Anthropology, Criminalist, Nutrition, Microbiology, Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Business Technology, Accounting, Architecture, Marketplace Technology, Audiology, Physical Therapy, Nursing, Opthamology, and Laboratory Technician.

Lunch is served at Noon. A campus tour and lab demonstrations by Butte College Instructors will follow. The event concludes at 3 p.m The cost is $5 per student, and parents can attend for $5.

Scholarships are available through the AAUW for any student with a financial need. Rides are also offered. Registration forms are available through 8th grade math and science teachers in Butte County middle schools. Contact Jana Lawton at (530) 894-1843 or for more information.
