PLACENTIA, Calif. (AP) - Officials say a teacher who was found dead by high school students in a Southern California classroom apparently committed suicide.

Assistant Superintendent Kevin Lee with Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District says several students discovered the female teacher around 8:30 a.m. Monday at El Dorado High School.

Responding paramedics performed CPR but were unable to revive the teacher. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lee says the teacher committed suicide but he did not elaborate.

Classes were dismissed for the day at 11 a.m.

Lee says crisis counselors are available on campus.
