A group cleaning up homeless camps in Chico Friday say they found dozens of needles, just 10 feet away from a school playground.
Volunteers with the Christbridge Ministry clean up homeless encampments in Chico every Friday and always find at least a dozen syringes used for injecting drugs, but say they found an extraordinary amount during today's cleanup by the Park Avenue Bridge.
The eight volunteers on today's cleanup crew say dozens of the discarded syringes were less than 10 feet away from the Chico Country Day School playground.
Code enforcement officers in Chico have struggled with homeless camps for years, but recently volunteers with the Christbridge Ministry have been spending their Fridays cleaning up areas of Chico where homeless camps have caused problems.
