Swedes Fire evacuations expected to be lifted Thursday

Firefighters battling the Swedes Fire say they made progress overnight and officials say that while evacuations remain in effect, some residents are expected to be allowed to return home Thursday.

Cal Fire says that as of 9:45 a.m. the fire, burning about three miles north of Bangor, has burned 564 acres and 45 percent containment.

The fire broke out around noon Wednesday and began to spread rapidly around 1:30 p.m.

Mandatory evacuations remain in effect for residents along Stoney Oaks Loop, Stoney Oaks Boulevard and Gold Mountain Road, Obert Drive, and Gaston Booth Drive.
