A Sutter County Correctional Officer is in custody at the Sutter County Jail after being arrested for allegedly selling methamphetamine.
The Sutter County Sheriff's Office confirmed Thursday that 37-year-old Salvador Vaca Jr. was arrested Wednesday afternoon, the result of a 3 week long investigation.
Vaca was pulled over by sheriff's deputies near Colusa Highway and the Civic Center Boulevard in Yuba City at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday. Detectives served a search warrant on Vaca's vehicle and found several packages containing more than 3 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm.
Vaca was booked into the Sutter County Jail for possession of methamphetamine for sale and transportation of drugs. He will also be charged with committing a felony while armed.
According to the Sheriff's Office, investigators received a tip about Vaca's alleged drug activity roughly 3 weeks ago, leading to the subsequent investigation and arrest. An internal investigation is underway, but sheriff's officials say they have no evidence to believe Vaca used his position as a correctional officer to smuggle methamphetamine or other drugs to inmates.
