Suspicious person reported talking to children in Oroville

Butte County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a suspicious individual who approached children unknown to them in Oroville Wednesday afternoon.

Butte County received a call from a citizen reporting a suspicious van in the area of Mt. Ida and Pioneer Trail in Oroville.

Sheriff’s deputies said the victim, a 9-year-old girl, was approached by a man who asked her if she needed a ride. The girl described the vehicle as a box-style van. The victim described the man as a white male older adult with a grey beard and glasses.

It is unknown at this time if the man had any criminal intent or whether this incident is connected to the previous attempted kidnappings earlier Wednesday and Tuesday morning.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the incident and Oroville Elementary School District has been notified.

Butte County Sheriff’s Office warns parents to talk with their children about not talking to strangers and being aware of their surroundings and when possible, children should use the buddy system while walking home from school.
