A suspected DUI driver is in police custody after crashing his truck overnight into a tree and fire hydrant, sending water shooting into the air.

Around 2:30 a.m. Friday, Chico police say Zachary Henderson, driving a white Toyota pickup truck was heading northbound on Nord Avenue when he tried to make a turn onto West Sacramento Avenue near the Safeway shopping center but was going too fast and lost control, crashing into a fire hydrant and tree head-on.

Water from the hydrant went shooting into the air for about 20 minutes before the fire department got it turned off.

Cal water officials on scene say this is the second time this week that a hydrant has been hit.

The first incident happened near the Oxford Suites in Chico.

Cal water says the hydrant hit overnight will be replaced sometime Friday.

Henderson was not hurt and was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.
