Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko has over 30 years of law enforcement experience, but it has likely been awhile since he found himself in a situation like the one he came across Thursday night.

The sheriff was driving an unmarked patrol car westbound on Dersch Road near Airport Road around 7:45 p.m. when he spotted a Lexus without license plates driving erratically.

Bosenko tried to make a traffic stop, but the Lexus SUV sped off and a chase reaching speeds in excess of 100 MPH ensured.

As the chase progressed, the SUV slowed and a passenger jumped out and ran away. Bosenko continued behind the SUV, which ran through a fence and onto private property.

Bosenko lost the SUV as it headed westbound on the private land, and when he found it a few minutes later the driver was gone.

A record check on the Vehicle Identification Number indicated it was previously reported stolen.

Sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol Officers conducted an extensive search of the area, but failed to locate either of the two men.
