Chico police have arrested a man suspected of robbing three Butte County banks in the last week.

A patrol officer spotted Joe Fedrico Nunez Martinez near a local motel Tuesday morning and made contact with him because he bared a resemblance to the alleged robber.

Martinez was detained and taken to the police station for questioning, and other officers searched his motel room. Investigators say they found evidence linking Martinez to three Butte County bank robberies.

Police also learned Martinez is wanted in Salinas for a parole violation. He was booked into the Butte County Jail on three counts of suspicion of robbery.

The string of Butte County robberies began last Wednesday when a Hispanic male in his mid-30's robbed the U.S. Bank in downtown Chico. In the week following, a man matching that description robbed the Rabobank on Pearson Road in Paradise and on East Avenue in Chico.
