HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Authorities in Orange County have arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of robbing one bank, attempting to rob another twice and preparing to rob a third.
City News Service reports Neil Cherry of Huntington Beach was taken into custody Wednesday evening at a shopping center.
Huntington Beach police had dubbed the suspect the Garfield Bandit after he was twice spotted allegedly "casing" the U.S. Bank branch on Garfield Avenue.
Before that, investigators say, Cherry robbed a Bank of the West Bank on Dec. 21 and tried to hold up a Chase branch on Dec. 19.
Police Officer Jennifer Marlatt says Cherry threatened violence during the stickups but did not display a weapon.
City News Service says a tip from a citizen led to the arrest. It wasn't immediately known if Cherry has a lawyer.
