Suspected armed felon detained in Redding

A wanted felon was detained Thursday after hiding out in a backyard for several hours, the Redding Police Department reported.

Joshua Kemp, 35, was reported to have possessed a firearm while hiding in the backyard of a home on the 1600 block of Willis Street in Redding Thursday morning.

Officers deployed a search helicopter and K9 units to search for Kemp who was detained shortly after.

Officers suspected that Kemp has possessed a weapon although he was not initially detained with one. K9 unit Chyr searched the area where Kemp was located and eventually discovered the weapon in question.

Joshua Kemp was booked into Shasta County Jail on $10,000 bond. Kemp is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and an outstanding felony warrant. The warrant charges were for possession of a concealed weapon and narcotics possession.
