Last night at 11:00 p.m., deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 4305 Indian Ave. in the City of Shasta Lake regarding a disturbance. The homeowner, Sarah Covert, said that one of her roommates, David Dothard, had pointed a handgun at her and was intimidating other people at the house. When deputies arrived at the house, Dothard was trying to leave in a car with his girlfriend. Deputies stopped the car at gunpoint and ordered Dothard to turn off the car and get out.

According to the Shasta County Press Release, Dothard refused to get out of the car and began reaching towards the floorboard. Fearing that Dothard was reaching for a weapon, a deputy broke out the driver’s side window and shot Dothard with a taser. The taser was not effective and Dothard drove backwards at a high rate of speed and crashed into a fence. Dothard then drove back to 4305 Indian Ave. and fled the area on foot.

Deputies, with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) helicopter, and CHP patrol staff, searched the surrounding area for Dothard. After an extensive search Dothard was not located.

Dothard is a black male adult, 24 Years old, 6’4”, 160lbs, Black hair and Brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a light colored tank top and blue jeans. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Department was unable to give a description of the vehicle Dothard fled. He is currently wanted for assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest with injury, brandishing a firearm and leaving the scene of an accident.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Dothard is asked to call 245-6025.
