Redding police are searching for a man who robbed the Tri Counties Bank on Westside Road in Redding Tuesday afternoon.

A silent alarm was activated by bank staff just before 1 p.m. and the suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot. Authorities say the suspect simulated having a weapon and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police called for a California Highway Patrol helicopter and a k-9 to help search for the suspect and the search is ongoing.

In the moments following the robbery, authorities detained several people who matched the suspect description, but all of those people turned out to be uninvolved.

The suspect has been described as a white male in his twenties, short in stature and wearing a black baseball hat. He was last seen headed northwest from the Westside Road location.
