A man in Shasta County is behind bars after leading multiple police forces and the California Highway Patrol on a high speed chase in a motorhome.

According to Redding Police, the suspect stole a motorhome just after midnight from the yard of a home on the 2400 block of Beverly Drive.

Police spotted the motorhome going south on Bechelli Lane. Officials followed the vehicle onto southbound Interstate 5.

The motorhome exited at Knighton Road, passed Churn Creek Road when spikes were shortly laid out in order to slow down the vehicle.

But the vehicle took off southbound on Highway 273 with patrol cars in pursuit.

The motorhome driver stopped near the intersection of Palm Avenue and Olive Street in Happy Valley.

An armored vehicle was brought in to help bring the suspect into custody. Police used tear gas inside the motorhome but the man refused to come out.

Then just before 2:30 a.m. police K-9 were sent in where officers found the man naked inside, hiding.

Redding police say the suspect appeared to be under the influence.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment of multiple dog bites and then booked into the Shasta County Jail.
