Yesterday a citizen reported information about the suspect vehicle in last Friday’s hit and run at the intersection of Oro Dam Boulevard and Lincoln Boulevard after reading an article in the Oroville Mercury Register. The suspect was later arrested on felony hit and run charges.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. last Friday, 53-year-old Wayne P. Freeman was traveling through the intersection on his motorized bicycle westbound on Oro Dam Boulevard when a four-door sedan traveling eastbound turned northbound into the intersection and collided into Freeman. The vehicle then fled the scene of the accident. Oroville Police Officers determined by collecting evidence and witness statements the sedan failed to stop for the red light at the intersection which subsequently caused the accident. Freeman was transported to Enloe Medical Center where he was treated for head trauma but was released on Saturday.

The suspect vehicle was described as a 1994 or newer Ford Taurus four-door sedan silver in color. The sedan was also described as missing the rear bumper with and damage to the passenger side of the vehicle including the side mirror.

Yesterday a citizen provided Oroville Police with information on that vehicle after reading an article in the Oroville Mercury Register. The 2001 Taurus was located in a driveway on the 1100 block of Wonder Lane in Oroville. The vehicle had damages consistent with those of the suspect vehicle. Officer Gary Vrooman later interviewed and arrested 30-year-old Steven Hanshew at the residence.

Henshew’s driver’s license has been suspended, his vehicle impounded for evidence, and he was booked into the Butte County Jail for felony hit and run causing injury.
