The man wanted for fatally stabbing a Chico man is behind bars tonight. The suspect was taken into custody Tuesday after a short police chase through Glenn County.
It all began last week when Chico Police were investigating the stabbing death of 37-year old Joel Eldridge of Chico. They started searching for Michael Anderson, who was evading police.
Police got a tip late this morning that Anderson was in the Orland area and driving a stolen vehicle. Chico detectives along with the Glenn County Sheriff's Office and California Highway Patrol began searching the area. He was spotted near Highway 45 and Road 29, but Anderson failed to stop and took police on a chase. He drove into a mobile home park, where a female passenger got out and he continued to drive away. Anderson ended up crashing into a ditch and getting the car stuck on a large stump. "The driver who was identified as Mr. Anderson, fled from the vehicle and he ran into a trailer here in the trailer park.", explained Sergeant Matt Madden with Chico Police. Veronica Rodriguez, whose father lives in that mobile home explains how her father told Anderson to leave. "He says ‘I don't want no problems, just get out of my house. Get out of my house. I don't want any problems."
Rodriguez says her father didn't know Anderson and forced him to leave their home, causing Anderson to give up and surrender to police. Although residents were shaken up, nobody was hurt during the chase or the incident at the mobile home park.
Anderson was taken to the Butte County Jail and charged with murder. He's being held without bail.
