A suspect escaped the long arm of the Redding law once. They would not let him do it again.
Redding Police reported Thursday that they witnessed the same male suspect driving the same Lexus they pursued March 23 near the 800 Block of Jefferson Court.
During the first attempted traffic stop, suspect Khampasong Phaviseth, 28 of Redding, fled from the scene of foot and escaped.
A week later officers saw the same suspect driving the same vehicle near Churn Creek Road and Loma Vista Drive. Officers attempted to pull the suspect over and a chase ensued. After a short pursuit, the driver suspect crashed the 1992 Lexus and both the male driver and female passenger fled on foot.
The female passenger, identified as Veronica Zalles, 23 of Redding, was arrested shortly after the foot chase began. She was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer.
The male driver was able to flee much further, but was ultimately arrested at a home near the 3600 block of Echo Road. Homeowners said the suspect was arrested while hiding in a bedroom closet. They were home but had no idea the suspect was in the home.
Phaviseth was arrested for outstanding warrants and additional charges of evading a peace officer, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and driving on a suspended license
