Suspect Confesses to Shooting, Setting Residence On Fire

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Department has released more information regarding today’s shooting and structure fire at a Shasta Lake residence.

According to the department, deputies were called to 1809 Shasta Street to a report of a gunshot victim just after 11 a.m. and were advised of a structure fire at the location. Deputies found the victim, identified as 60-year-old Horace Randazzo, lying in the roadway in front of the residence and had suffered at least one gunshot wound. Before being transported to an area hospital, Randazzo identified the individual who shot him as 58-year-old Manuel Benta.

Randazzo is currently listed in critical condition, according to the Sheriff’s press release.

Benta was located and arrested a short distance away at the Burger King in Shasta Lake. During questioning by detectives, Benta reportedly confessed to shooting Randazzo and setting the residence on fire. The department is further investigating the incident.
