A suspected gang member was arrested Thursday for making threats at a rival gang causing a lock down at a Shasta County high school, Shasta County Sheriff deputies reported.

Michael Anthony Farnsworth, 18, was arrested for two counts of criminal threats and conspiracy after he threatened that he would take part in a shooting targeting a rival gang that attended Central Valley High School in Shasta Lake.

Staff members at high school received word that members of the “L’Z Up Guns Down” gang were planning on shooting members of the “275” after an altercation between members of the two gangs the previous weekend.

The school was placed on what officials called a “soft lockdown” while law enforcement investigated the threat. Students were released into the custody of parents while investigators gathered information on the credibility of the threat.

Deputies stayed on scene at the high school until all students had left the campus.

This investigation is still on going, anyone with information is urged to contact the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.
