Gary Lee Bullock has been arrested in the Garberville area this afternoon after an arrest warrant was issued for Bullock this morning for the murder of Rev. Eric Freed who was found dead in St. Bernard Church yesterday, the Eureka Police Department has confirmed.

The Eureka Police Department received information from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office this afternoon that Bullock had been located in the south Humboldt County area and was taken into custody. Freed's vehicle, a 2010 Nissan Altima which was reported missing, was also located outside a residence near where Bullock was taken into custody.

According to the Eureka Times-Standard, Bullock's description matches that of a man confronted on the church grounds by a security guard early Wednesday morning. The report also indicated Freed was found badly beaten and there was further evidence of a forced entry and violent struggle. The exact cause of death has yet to be determined.

Bullock was named a suspect in a press conference held by the Eureka Polce Department this morning. Freed, a beloved priest and former educator at Humboldt State University, was found dead Wednesday in the St. Bernard Church rectory after he failed to show for morning mass.
