We have an update on the traffic accident which left two dead and two seriously injured yesterday on SR 70 near Saddleback Road. The two deceased victims have been identified as 54-year-old Cynthia Canfield of Roseville, who was driving the white Chevrolet Silverado, and 54-year-old Ricardo Garnica of Marysville, who was driving the brown Dodge pickup. The two surviving victims in the Silverado have been identified as Carl and Tianna Canfield. Tianna has been identified as Cynthia’s daughter, Carl’s relation is unknown. The ages of the surviving victims has not been released. Both Carl and Tianna are in fair condition at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

Just before 4 p.m. yesterday, a brown Dodge pickup driven by Garnica was traveling southbound on SR 70 approaching Saddleback Road. At the same time, Cynthia, Carl, and Tianna Canfield were driving in a Chevrolet Silverado traveling northbound approaching Saddleback Road. For reasons yet to be determined, Garnica entered the northbound lane directly into the path of the Silverado. As a result both vehicles collided head-on. Both Garnica and Cynthia Canfield were killed in the collision. Carl and Tianna Canfield were transported by bi-county ambulance to Rideout Emergency Room with major injuries. All of the occupants of the Silverado were wearing seatbelts, but Garnica was not wearing his lap belt. The accident is still under investigation and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol remain a factor. Any witnesses to the collision are encouraged to call 530-674-5141 with any information.
