Supreme Court Considers Affirmative Action Case Tuesday

Oct 15, 2013 8:04 AM

The Supreme Court Tuesday will consider whether a Michigan ban on affirmative action is discriminatory.

The case focuses on a 2006 voter-approved amendment to the state's constitution prohibiting universities from using race as a factor during admissions.

Following the law, African American and Latino enrollment at the University of Michigan declined.

Now several students, teachers and civil rights organizations are challenging the ban.

The Supreme Court's decision could impact other states that have or are considering similar initiatives prohibiting affirmative action.
