In just a week the Shasta County community has raised nearly $10,000 for an Anderson Police dog forced to retire after being diagnosed with an unknown infectious disease.

Aero, a three year-old Belgian Malinois/German Shepard, was diagnosed with the disease last month and has lost a significant amount of muscle mass and weight.

Several local veterinary offices have unsuccessfully tried to identify Aero’s illness, and he will now be examined by specialists at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

A GoFundMe page set up to help pay for Aero’s health care has raised $8,955 as of Thursday afternoon.

Aero has been patrolling the streets of Anderson since October 2013, and been involved in the apprehension of over fifty criminals, found large amounts drugs and drug money, and conducted multiple presentations in our local schools and churches. He just recently uncovered 7.5 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in a vehicle.
