Suicidal subject eludes police in Corning

Corning police are searching for a wanted man who held a gun to his head and threatened suicide during a pursuit Thursday night.

According to the police department, officers attempted to stop a wanted subject as he was biking on Highway 99 West, near Loleta Avenue. The man fled the area on foot and tried to enter several homes in the area.

When an officer located the suspect he held a gun to his head, threatened suicide and again fled the area.

The suspect was located again at the Bell-Carter Olive Company and again held a gun to his head and fled the area.

Corning police, along with the Tehama County Sheriff's Office and a California Highway Patrol Helicopter continued searching for the man, but were unable to locate him.

Police have described the man as a 24-year-old Hispanic male, but they have not released his name.
