In many ways Paradise High School's Wyatt Wyckoff is your typical student, but that all changes when he hits the wrestling mat where his sheer determination and work ethic have not only propelled him to the top of the competition, they've helped him pin down a full-ride scholarship as well.
Wyatt Wyckoff is a problem solver. He enjoys Math and Science. He believes the challenging courses will help prepare him for the profession he seeks.
"Since I was a freshman I've wanted to become an engineer and ever since then I've tried to find the classes that will get me there. Push yourself as hard as you can and take those hard classes. They'll help you be more successful," said Wyckoff.
Wyatt is a success. He has a 3.5 GPA and has taken three AP courses.
Wyatt is also a captain of the Bobcats' football and wrestling teams.
It's on the mat where he finds the most accomplishment and joy.
"I'm a three-time section champ, three-time league champ and two-time state finalist. I've spent my entire life wrestling and if someone tried to take it away there'd be no way I'd let them, it's just that much a part of my life," said Wyckoff.
His success on the mat has not gone unnoticed.
Wyckoff verbally committed to Army on Wednesday evening.
"It's the Army, an amazing Academy, beautiful campus and when you first think about New York you're thinking big city, but when you go there it's in the woods, kind of like Paradise. I'm definitely looking forward to taking that next step," said Wyckoff.
When it comes to wrestling, Wyckoff's has had a lot of success and he wants the next generation of Bobcats to succeed too.
"I've actually spent a lot of time working with our freshman. I just wanted to do everything I can to make them better, it helps that I'm good but I don't want to be the only one that's like that, I ant my entire team to be up there with me," said Wyckoff.
Paradise High's Wyatt Wyckoff is our Subway Scholar Athlete of the Week.
