Corning High's Whitney Armstrong has been around the game of basketball ever since she can remember.
"I was born into basketball and my mom used to coach here, so I grew up going to practices with her and being around the team," said Armstrong.
While the senior point guard is currently among the top players for the Cardinals, she also plays in the offseason with her AAU team, a squad that travels all over the western part of the United States.
"This past season went from April until late July and we got to go to Portland, South Medford, Seattle, and then San Diego. I've played competitively since third grade," said Armstrong.
It's a time-consuming activity, but it's what she loves to do.
"This is what I'm doing pretty much every moment that I'm not in school or with family and friends. My friends and I we're going to the gym and shooting around," said Armstrong.
But she's not just a hard-working basketball player, she's an All-League field hockey player as well. And in her free time Armstrong's studying for classes like English, she's kept up those grades for a 4.1 GPA.
"It's good to say 'I'm a good athlete but also I'm good in the classroom.' I can stay focused I can handle more than one thing. I'm focused on my future too," says Armstrong.
Which she says is hopefully a career in physical therapy. Armstrong's love is basketball and she's verbally committed to Simpson University.
"With it being a Christian college I'm looking forward to not only furthering my experience as a player but also in my relationship with the Lord," says Armstrong.
All while living by her favorite quote from the Bible.
"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint," Armstrong said. "Whenever I'm having a bad day or having a bad practice or whatever, I know that he'll get me through it all," Armstrong said.
