Whether he's hauling in touchdowns on the football field, or lacing line drives all over the diamond, Chico High School senior Paolo Disano loves to compete.

"I've just always tried as hard as I can to be the best that I can," said Disano.

But that motivation doesn't only take place in the athletic arena, it also transfers over to the classroom where Disano excels with a 4.3 GPA.

In college he wants to study biomedical engineering with the hopes of one day designing life saving medical devices.

"They (biomedical engineers) create tools that can help save people's lives and all that. It's really crazy to think that you can do something that important and that special to someone else, it feels really good to help people," said Disano.

At the moment Disano is helping the Chico baseball team with a hot bat.

Last week he went 7-for-11 with 2 triples, 2 doubles, and 3 RBI's, leading Chico to three wins over Paradise.

The latest offensive barrage boosted Disano's batting average to .435.

He likes to stay aggressive at the plate.

"Basically my mindset is don't swing at anything questionable or that's something you can't hit hard, but if it's close and you can hit hard then I want to hit the ball and swing."

A multi-talented individual on and off the playing surface and someone the Chico High baseball team depends on everyday.

Perhaps soon, physicians will depend on him as a biomedical engineer to help advance human health.
