Chico High School's Maribel Cisneros first started playing field hockey as a freshman. Over time it's become one of her favorite activities.
"I've made so many memories and friends throughout the sport, that's why I love it," said Cisneros.
It also helps when you play for a dominant program.
Chico is 12-1 on the season, putting themselves in position to possibly win their 11th league title in the past 12 years.
"We're a super committed team, we've been attending morning training practices, waking up at 5:00, being at practice at Chico High's weight training room at 6:00 in the morning which just gives you a little snapshot of the commitment our team puts in," said Cisneros.
Cisneros plays defender and utilizes great stick-work and hand-eye coordination to be successful. She says sometimes the position can be a little intimidating.
"I know personally myself I flinch when someone is about to hit the ball in front of me, but if you don't have any battle bruises than why are you playing," said Cisneros.
Similar to playing field hockey, Cisneros enjoys the challenges of the classroom.
She carries a 4.18 weighted GPA and takes two AP courses.
Next year, she hopes to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo or Chico State where she'd like to study architectural and interior design.
"Ever since I was little I would pretend to make floor plans even though I didn't really know how to. I've grown to like it even more," said Cisneros.
