Willows High School's Lainie Alves has spent the past four years leading by example and as Action News Now's Ross Field reports, her hard work on the diamond has helped this Subway Scholar Athlete secure a softball scholarship to the next level.
Senior Lainie Alves is a hit for the Willows High School softball team. She is the captain and has been one of the top players for the Honkers. Last year she was named first-team All-Sacramento Valley League and she's poised to have big senior year as the season gets underway.
"She pretty much takes care of herself, we tell her what to do and she does it, leads everybody, if people need help she's there, like an extension from our coaching staff, we're just looking for big things from here and we know she'll deliver," said Daryl Adams, Willows softball coach.
Lainie also enjoys FFA. She lives on a 1,500-acre farm.
"I've been involved in 4-H and FFA throughout the years raising pigs. Hard work is definitely instilled at a young age," said Alves.
In the classroom, Lainie sports a 4.2 GPA and she'll head to Arizona Christian, an NAIA school, on scholarship next fall.
"I'm really excited when I went and visited I got to practice with the team and meet all the players and it was just a close tight-knit community. I feel like I could really fit well there that's why I automatically fell in love with it," said Alves.
