Our latest Subway Scholar Athlete is a Paradise High School girls soccer player who not only excels on the pitch, but scores high marks on the academic level as well. Action News Now's Ross Field filed this report.
"Kaylee Jones is really a pleasure to coach," said Sherry Rank, Paradise girls soccer coach. "She is captain on the team and definitely holds a leadership position. The girls look up to her, they count on her and she doesn't let them down."
Jones certainly did not let her teammates her down at the Foothill Winter Warmup tournament this past weekend. The sweeper scored three goals in four games, all shutout victories, helping the Bobcats to first place in their group.
So far on the young season, Paradise is rolling, undefeated at 7-0-1.
"We really just make a group, we're all friendly, we all love each other and we just connect. We just know how each other work, it's really great," said Jones.
"She's a super super competitive girl and she's the kind of player you want to have on your team because when the going gets tough she gets tougher," added Rank.
Jones doesn't back down and she takes pride in wearing the captain badge and being a coach on the field.
"I love to instruct, to give advice and to improve our play," Jones said.
"She's really an orchestrator in the backfield and she does a great job and communicates very well on the field," said Rank.
Kaylee's success on the pitch is just one reason to pay attention to her. Another reason: the senior carries a 3.95 GPA.
"My parents really push me to be a good student and I don't want to let them down and I don't want to let myself down because I know in the future that it's really going to pay off," said Jones.
Jones is planning on pursuing a career in the medical field and wants to become a nurse practitioner.
But wait, there's more. Jones also volunteers her time making blankets for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
"I really want to contribute as much as I can,"said Jones.
She's Paradise High School's Kaylee Jones, our Subway Scholar Athlete of the Week.
