Our latest Subway Scholar Athlete has been a key contributor for the Pleasant Valley High School boys tennis team and as Action News Now's Ross Field found out, he hits the books just as well as a tennis ball!
"I've been playing ever since I was kid," Jordan Keating said. "The friends that I've grown up with, they play tennis, so it's kind of just a thing that I've been doing and it's fun."
Last week that 'fun' reached an all-time high for Pleasant Valley junior tennis standout Jordan Keating. He was in the center of a perfect day for the Vikings. Keating topped Chico's Sony Thao in singles play and also teamed up with Riley Slater to win a doubles match. As a team the PV boys defeated their rival 9-0 to remain undefeated in the Eastern Athletic League.
"It's always nice beating Chico High," Keating said. "We take pride in every match we play and we just go out there and have fun and we have a good time so it's awesome."
Keating also plays basketball and maintains a 3.5 GPA while taking two AP courses.
"I'm busy all the time," said Keating, with a smile.
A main reason why this Viking is sailing toward a bright future. In college he'd like to study to become an an engineer or architect.
"I'm good with math so something along that course," said Keating. "I've done so much with P-V already, trying to take the hardest classes, I've been involved with the sports here, so it's taken a lot of my time, it's a big part of my life."
And he's a big part of the tennis team's success.
