Our latest Subway Scholar Athlete of the Week is a multi-sport star from Paradise whose competitive juices carry him past the competition in and out of the classroom. Action News Now's Ross Field has the story.
Whether he's laying hard hits on the football field or blowing by defenders on the basketball court, there's nothing Jett Hampton loves more than competing for Paradise.
"I just love getting out there and playing your heart out for the green and gold you know, it's all about winning," said Hampton.
That killer instinct not only takes place in the athletic arena, but it also transfers over to the classroom where Hampton excels with a 3.8 GPA.
"Being a good student has always been important to me. If you want to be successful in life you need to have good grades in the classroom. You can work hard for four years in the classroom and be set up for life, or you can slack off for four years and have to work hard for the rest of your life, that's how I look at it," added Hampton.
Hampton's currently plays point guard position for the Bobcats and while he seems himself as more of a facilitator than a scorer, he's certainly not afraid to take the big shot. On Monday, Hampton buried a deep three at the buzzer to help Paradise defeat Red bluff 51-50.
"The reaction afterwards from the fans and the crowd and my teammates just all running after me, it was something I'll never forget for sure," said Hampton.
While Jett's certainly having fun playing hoops at the moment, when he heads off to college next fall he will focus solely on the pigskin, even if he has to walk-on.
"I've applied to San Diego State, University of Nevada-Reno, Cal Poly and I'm going to do whatever it takes to get that shot and go to the next level," said Hampton.
