Janae Gray refuses to take the easy route. In fact, the more obstacles thrown her way the better. The proof is in the classroom and on the court and now she is our Subway Scholar Athlete of the Week. Action News Now's Ross Field filed this report.
It seems as though Janae Gray is always doing something.
"I like routine, I like a schedule and I like to know what I'm doing next. Having a plan helps me so when I do have free time, I have all this stuff that I can do. I don't like having nothing to do, staying busy keeps me organized and focused on what I need to do," Gray says.
Some of the activities that keep her busy include being a member of Student Government and a youth basketball coach. She's in a bowling club too. Gray maintains a 3.9 GPA and plans on majoring in liberal studies. Janae wants to be a teacher.
"I just really have a heart for kids. Seeing them learn and strive to be their best makes me happy," says Gray.
Basketball also makes Janae happy.
She's played varsity for four years, assuming the role of point guard and team leader. She likes being an unselfish player.
Janae is an all-around athlete. She has participated in track and field as well. It's basketball that is her calling though.
"I have no problem giving great passes to our post down low, or our guards outside. I like to win as a team and I think you have to be unselfish to win as a team," says Gray.
"I'm glad I've had the chance to play for the coaches I've got to play for. They really care about the team and care about me as an individual and I think I've really learned how to show character in any given situation, I think that's going to take me really far," says Gray.
She's Janae Gray and she's our Scholar Athlete of the Week presented by Subway.
