High school soccer soccer teams are wrapping up their regular seasons and many are hoping to make a run in the playoffs.
One of those teams on the boys side, the Pleasant Valley Vikings, closed out the Eastern Athletic League with an undefeated recor, thanks in large part to the play of Ian Melton.
Ian Melton looks at soccer as he does life, practicing and planning will prepare you for challenges and decisions you face along the way.
The Pleasant Valley High midfielder has done a pretty good job of practicing and preparing, scoring 14 goals and adding 11 assists while helping the Vikings to an 19-1-1 overall record and a 12-0 mark in the EAL.
"It's been a lot of fun., everyone is working well as a unit and it's nice to see the team mesh together," said Melton.
But Belton says there is much more to accomplish this season.
"The number one goal is to get that section championship and we've all been working really hard towards that," said Melton.
Melton is working hard in the classroom as well, sporting a 4.3 unweighted GPA. He spends a few hours extra studying at night because he's focused on his future
"The goal is to get into a good school and I've just been working towards that. The work you put into it, you get the results, i take that into school and sports," said Melton.
Melton is leaning toward attending Cal-Poly San Luis Obispo where he wants to study engineering, but he's still got time to make a decision, and also chase a section championship. He has practiced and prepared to get to this point, so the outcome of the game and life look pretty good.
