Durham senior Damon Young carries a 3.7 GPA and will have completed three AP courses by the time he graduates.
"I want to get into a good college so I can prepare for a future career," said Young.
A love of current events, government service and politics is leading Damon toward majoring in Political Science.
"I haven't decided where I want to go with that but I know I can get a good career out of that," said Young.
But in between high school and college, Young says there's something he wants to do.
"I plan on serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I just feel like me giving that two years of service is just something little I can give back, that's something that really interests me," said Young.
His other interest is running. Young is one of the best distance runners in the northern section.
"Cross country is a very physically demanding sport and it also has a whole mental side to it, you have to train your mind just to push through pain and also keep all these positive thoughts flowing through your head," said Young.
Damon is also a captain of the cross country team, a title he takes seriously.
"The younger kids really look up to you so you have to be that example and make sure they're doing
everything right," said Young.
Damon plans on attending BYU Provo at the end of the summer to begin his mission. He's ready for the next challenge.
"I'm getting pretty anxious to just explore new areas of life, meet new people and see where I can take that," said Young.
