Feb 6, 2014 8:11 PM

Our Subway Scholar Athlete of the Week hails from Paradise High School and this senior basketball player has been hurting opponents all season long with the deep ball, all while taking care of business in the classroom.

"I haven't always been a 3-point shooter, but this year and last year, it really kind've kicked in, I believed I can shoot it and I just got more confident I think," said Cassidy Burnett.

Cassidy Burnett can nail a jump shot.

No difference when taking a test, she'll nail that too.

"Being able to bring your work with you or something, studying on the bus, on the way to a game, or on the way home, you just have to work with it, you can't really make excuses," said Burnett.

That determination helps Burnett boast a 4.0 GPA.

When she's not studying or playing basketball, you can catch this sharp-shooter with her eyes glued to a certain kind've book.

"I just love Sci-Fi romances, those are kind've like The Hunger Games, Divergent, just like any kind've book that can catch my eyes," said Burnett.

Ross Field asks, "Would you consider yourself a little bit of a book-worm?

"Yes, definitely. I'll probably have a new book in my hand every week," said Burnett.

Cassidy Burnett takes pride in being a well-rounded individual.

When a challenge comes her way, she does her best to shoot it down, both on the court and in the classroom.
