Our latest Subway Scholar Athlete of the Week is a young lady of many talents for the Durham High School volleyball team.
Baylie Larson had plenty of interests growing up, like swimming and softball, but when she hit the volleyball for the first time, she was hooked!
"It's such a fun sport, when you play it, you get so into it," said Larson.
It sure helps when you possess natural athleticism.
Larson does it all for the Trojans, from outside hitting to digging, blocking and serving, all while carrying a modest approach.
"I've been playing with the same girls since the sixth grade so all of us have always played together, it's just fun having that team that knows each other so well. My teammates help pick me up so much, to help me try and be that team leader and a vital player on the court. A lot of it comes from the support that I get from the team, the coaches, my family, and my friends," said Larson.
Which makes it easy for her to push personal achievements aside.
Durham's impressive 13-1 start to the season is far more important to Larson, as well as her 3.71 GPA.
"You have to do well in school because you're a student athlete which means school always comes first," said Larson.
Success in school and success as a team top Larson's list of priorties.
As the season rolls on for Durham, Larson envisions a big finish.
"Go out with our heads up and with a section title," said Larson.
If that proves to be the case, it will definitely be this dominant force helping lead the way.
