The Red Bluff High softball team is on quite a roll, winning 22 straight games.
A big reason why? Slugger Bailey Akins, who's not only hitting home-runs at a high rate, she's hitting high marks in the classroom as well.
"I love the game and I'm having fun," says Bailey Akins. "It's easy to enjoy it and easy just to go out and do what I do best."
What Bailey Akins does best is hit. Her batting average this season is .384, with 11 home-runs and 39 RBI's.
The junior puts in the work to make sure she's a force to be reckoned with when the bat is in her hands.
"I go out there, I'll have high school practice, and a couple hours later, I'll go out with my dad and practice some more on just the little mechanics, that's what's big, it's all about the time you put in," says Akins.
Much like the home-runs off her bat, that extra effort goes a long way.
Bailey's outstanding season has helped the Red Bluff High softball team to a 30-6 record. They've won 22 in a row and on Saturday, they'll face Enterprise for the Div. III section title. The Hornets handed the Spartans their last loss on April 4th, and Bailey says they've got revenge on their minds.
"I don't believe that they should underestimate us whatsoever, we're on a winning streak and we're coming to win," says Akins.
Bailey's not just a winner on the diamond, she's a winner in the classroom as well, sporting a 3.9 GPA despite taking two AP courses.
"I'm very motivated, my family really pushes me a lot, I know that I have to put in the work if I want to do something in life," says Akins.
That shouldn't be a problem, Akins has been putting in the work since day one.
