After nearly two months without any meaningful amounts of moisture heading into the region, it looks like the dry spell will break this week. A system heading towards the west coast will start to break down the blocking pattern that has left the area with unseasonably dry conditions since early December. Showers will be possible late this afternoon in the Northern Mountains, with another system approaching the west coast midweek. Widespread showers could take hold of northern California as early as Wednesday night, and linger into Thursday. The Sierra could even see showers heading into the weekend. Around an inch of rain is projected to return to the valley during this time, with more than two inches possible in the mountains. Photo courtesy of the National Weather Service in Sacramento.
