California is still deep in drought - but three winter storms this week have forecasters hoping the state is coming out of the very driest part of it.
Saturday brought another quarter-inch or more of rain to the San Francisco Bay Area and other parts of Northern California. Forecaster Bob Benjamin of the National Weather Service says yet another storm next weekend is expected to bring more rain.
The federal National Climactic Data Center says the 36 months that ended in October were the driest three years in California history.
Forecasters say the rain this month has helped bring totals above last year's, but still below normal.
Forecaster Benjamin says a high-pressure ridge that sat off California last winter, blocking rain, seems to have gone away for now.
