A Chico man is in custody after leading Police on a stolen vehicle pursuit. It happened yesterday morning around 6:00. Chico Police received a report that a gray VW Jetta had been stolen while parked in front of a residence on Banning Park Drive in Ca. Park. According to police, the vehicle had been warming up and was unattended when the suspect took it. There was a second vehicle, a red Mustang, seen in the area at the time of theft which was believed to be involved.
Approximately 10 minutes later, Officers spotted the gray Jetta and a red Mustang traveling westbound on Old Humboldt Road at Bruce Road. The Jetta immediately fled from officers. The suspect travelled westbound on Humboldt Road, driving past the Police Station at about 80 mph. The suspect then went across E. 8th Street and headed east. At Forest Avenue the suspect turned south and then west on Highway 32. When the suspect reached E. 8th Street near Hwy 99 he turned westbound onto a dead end street which terminates next to the northbound 99 onramp. The suspect stopped the car and fled on foot but was captured minutes later while hiding in a back yard.
The suspect, 20 year old Logan Bandy of Chico, told officers that he had just been released from jail for a prior vehicle theft and was on probation. The victim vehicle was recovered intact. Officers later located the associated red Mustang and are conducting an investigation to determine its involvement. Bandy has been charged with: vehicle theft, failure to yield, resisting arrest, and violation of probation.
