Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Leads CHP Officers Across Multiple Counties

Redding CHP responded to a call of a stolen vehicle from the ACE Hardware store in Cottonwood just before 9:15 a.m. this morning. The victim provided responding officers with the description of their 2001 Dodge Ram pickup, and told officers it had entered Southbound I-5 from Gas Point Road.

At approximately 9:22 a.m. officers from the Red Bluff CHP observed the suspect vehicle driving southbound on I-5 at Jelly’s Ferry Road north of Red Bluff. CHP officers attempted to stop the vehicle south of Adobe Road but the pursuit ensued. According to the CHP press release, the suspect vehicle exited I-5 at Diamond Avenue, traveling a short distance through the city of Red Bluff before jumping back on to I-5 south. CHP estimated speeds reached 80 to 90 mph as the suspect continued to pursuit southbound.

Officers at one point attempted to deploy a spike strip at Flores Avenue, but the suspect was able to avoid it. The suspect the reportedly drove through a Caltrans work zone at Flores Avenue; but work had been halted and the workers were moved to a safe location before the pursuit reached the work zone. The vehicle eventually exited I-5 south at County Road 7 near Orland and traveled west for several miles before driving through a fence and into a pasture. The suspect then reportedly drove into a ditch where the vehicle became disabled, then attempted to flee on foot. The suspect was observed by CHP officers from the Northern Division Air Operations helicopter who eventually landed and took the suspect into custody without incident. The arrest occurred near Roser Road just north of the Glenn-Tehama County Line.

The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Randen Russell Knight of Lewiston, Idaho.
