Stolen vehicle, amtrak train collide in Anderson

Anderson Police are investigating a train accident Thursday morning after an Amtrak train collided with an unoccupied vehicle on the tracks. Passengers were on board the train but no injuries were reported as a result of the accident.

The accident occurred around 2:55 a.m. where police said the train struck a vehicle near the North Barney Cemetery Access Road.

After investigating the incident, Anderson Police said the vehicle was abandoned on the track before the collision. Police said they were unable to locate any victims from the truck.

Later, officers learned that the vehicle was reported to the California Higway Patrol as stolen out of Redding.

The vehicle was destroyed as a result of the accident. The Amtrak train received moderate damage leaving it disabled on the track. Amtrak engineers and city officials said the North Barney Cemetery Access Road will be closed until early afternoon.

The recovery of the stolen vehicle is still under investigation.
