According to California State Parks, just after noon Saturday, a ranger ran a check of a license plate at the Big Chico Creek access area on Chico River Road, and discovered that the white Dodge Stealth had been reported stolen out of Tehama County on November 10. The ranger followed the car to city limits, while calling for back-up. Once in Chico, a Butte County Sheriff's deputy tried to pull the car over, but investigators say the driver took off, leading them on a chase through the streets, where the car was found abandoned at an apartment complex in the 800 block of Pomona Avenue. One neighbor, who asked to only be identified as Gail, said it was unusual to see such activity in the area. She said she saw the man pull in, abandon the car, and take off on foot. A K-9 was brought in, and Chico Police conducted a search of the area, but the suspect, a white male, managed to get away.
